Cornus alba, commonly called red dogwood, is a rapid-growing, multi-stemmed, suckering, deciduous shrub that is native to eastern and central Asia. It typically matures to 8-10ft tall at a very fast rate.

A popular ornamental used in landscaping its notable features include the red stems in fall (autumn) through late winter, the brightest winter bark of any Cornus variety. 

It is in flower from June to July, and the seeds ripen from August to October. The species is hermaphrodite (has both male and female organs) and is pollinated by Insects.
