Xanthorrhoea Australis - 10+ SeedsXanthorrhoea australis, the grass tree, austral grasstree or standard blackboy, is an Australian Native plant. It is the most commonly seen species of the genus Xanthorrhoea. Its trunk can grow up to several metres tall and is often branched. In certain Aboriginal languages, it is called bukkup, baggup or kawee.
A food source for nectar eating birds and butterflies when in flowers and seed eating birds when the seed is developing.
Grass trees are recognised across the world as being uniquely Australian.
Prefers a light well-drained soil in an open sunny position. Drought and frost tolerant.Cultural uses: Hunting implements, resin used as adhesive, nectar from flowering spikes and food from leave base.
Germination tips Although you can see these seeds most of the year in Australia, native seed is generally best sown in spring or autumn, try to avoid the coldest and hottest months of the year. The optimum germination temperature for germination is around 18-22°C for this species. We trick our seeds into sprouting by using a heat mat which you can purchase cheaply online.
Xanthorrhoea germinate very easily from seed with no special pre-treatment.
