Chili 'Tepin Birds Eye' - 8 Seeds
Chili Tepin, also known as Capsicum annuum var. glabriusculum, is a small, wild chili pepper native to the Americas, particularly Mexico and the southwestern United States. It is often called the "bird's eye chili" due to its tiny, round shape and the fact that birds are more likely to disperse its seeds. Tepin peppers are intensely spicy, often ranging from 50,000 to 100,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU), which makes them significantly hotter than many other popular chili varieties.
The flavor is pungent and fruity with a noticeable earthy undertone, and the peppers are commonly used in Mexican cuisine to make hot sauces, salsas, and marinades. They can be used fresh, but they are often dried or smoked to concentrate their heat and flavor. Tepin peppers are also valued for their medicinal properties in traditional practices.
These peppers are hardy and grow in harsh, arid climates, thriving in regions with minimal rainfall and high heat. Despite their small size, Tepin peppers pack a significant punch, both in flavor and heat.
This very attractive plant also make quite a spectacle when grown as a conservatory or patio plant.
