Betacea Red 'Tamarillo' 5x Seeds

Tamarillo 'Red' (Solanum betaceum, formerly Cyphomandra betacea), commonly known as the Tree Tomato, is a fast-growing, evergreen shrub or small tree native to South America. It produces egg-shaped, glossy red fruits with tangy, vitamin-rich orange flesh, offering a unique flavour reminiscent of a blend between passionfruit and tomato. The fruit is versatile in the kitchen—ideal for sauces, chutneys, desserts, or enjoyed fresh.

Plants typically reach 2–3 metres in height with large, soft, heart-shaped leaves and clusters of fragrant pale pink to white flowers in spring. Fruit ripens from late autumn through winter. Tamarillos thrive in full sun and well-drained, fertile soil, and benefit from regular watering and feeding. They are best suited to sheltered, frost-free areas or grown in large pots in cooler climates

A productive and ornamental fruiting plant that brings a tropical touch to the edible garden.
