Annual variety originating from Mexico growing to 120cm. Plants produce round golden green fruit which is covered in a papery husk. The fruit grows to around 4cm-5cm. The papery outer layer is not edible. The fruit has an enchanting sweet/ tart flavour and can be eaten raw or cooked. The fruit is commonly used in salsas, sauces, jams and preserves. Unripe fruit is also used extensively in curries, soups and stews.
Fruit is ready to eat when the husk becomes brittle and begins to break away from the fruit.
