Dwarf Grass Tree / Xanthorrhoea resinosa has only a 60 cm trunk with long grass like leaves 2-6 mm in diameter.

A food source for nectar eating birds and butterflies when in flowers and seed eating birds when the seed is developing.

Grass trees are recognised across the world as being uniquely Australian.

Prefers a light well-drained soil in an open sunny position. Drought and frost tolerant.

Although you can see these seeds most of the year in Australia, native seed is generally best sown in spring or autumn, try to avoid the coldest and hottest months of the year. The optimum germination temperature for germination is around 18-22°C for this species. We trick our seeds into sprouting by using a heat mat which you can purchase cheaply online.

Cultural uses: Hunting implements, resin used as adhesive, nectar from flowering spikes and food from leave base.

Xanthorrhoea germinate very easily from seed with no special pre-treatment.

  1. Sow seed on surface of a porous seed raising mix and cover to a depth of 1-2 mm. Don’t bury the seed.
  2. Water with fine mist spray to avoid moving the seed.
  3. Place in a warm shaded or semi shaded position to avoid dying out.
  4. Keep warm & moist, avoid drying out or waterlogging the growing mix.
  5. Germination generally occurs in around 10-28 days in the right condition.
  6. We use cheap mini hot houses from Bunnings and heat mats to get our seeds to germinate quickly!

Each seed packet contains a minimum of 10x seeds
